“It’s hard to view Northwestern quarterback Kain Colter as the Che Guevara of college sports once you learn that he interned at Goldman Sachs.” Catchy quote from a recent Sally Jenkins piece entitled NLRB ruling on Northwestern football players opens up more questions than answers. I am not sure Mr. Coulter was trying to be Che Guevara and I am not sure Mr. Guevara was much interested in college sports or unions. Then add the Goldman Sachs reference to demonize Mr. Coulter from all sides. Ms. Jenkins goes on to defend the system about which she writes and from which she draws her livelihood largely by asking straw man questions the seem to guide the reader to the conclusion, “it’s too complicated, leave it alone.” Would anyone be up in arms if I began this piece by saying, “It’s hard to review Sally Jenkins as a thoughtful commentator on sports once you learn that she co-authored two books with Lance Armstrong.” Here’s a tip Ms Jenkins: just as “it was not about the bike,” the attacks on the NCAA are “not about the union.” The sources in your rolodex notwithstanding. washingtonpost/sports/colleges/nlrb-ruling-on-northwestern-football-players-wont-help-what-ails-college-athletics/2014/03/29/054e2942-b6af-11e3-b84e-897d3d12b816_story.html
