“I’m sorry, but we’re full” is one of the toughest - TopicsExpress

“I’m sorry, but we’re full” is one of the toughest responses anyone can receive when seeking rescue help for a homeless animal, but the words reflect a group that values quality* care for its current population of animals. Animal hoarders however rarely say no. We learned a lot about animal hoarding at the recent Rescue Jam, thanks to a fact-filled presentation by Maggie McDowell. It’s not a pleasant topic, but animal lovers need to be aware that the trend exists and is becoming more common in the rescue/sanctuary world, with up to 25% of cases said to involve overwhelmed rescuers (source: ASPCA). We brought the case of Olympic Animal Sanctuary to this page last December when conditions seemed to be at their worst. Thankfully, everything has changed for the better for the OAS dogs since that post. We’re especially encouraged to see local authorities noodle out an ordinance that will prevent more animals from suffering the hoarding nightmare in this one tiny spot of the country. Tough lessons learned, with many more to come. seattledogspot/blog/dog-blog/post/it-was-a-good-week-for-dogs-in-washingon
