"I’ve come to see that the obsession with what others are - TopicsExpress

"I’ve come to see that the obsession with what others are thinking is yet another trick of the ego. In fact, people are not spending much time thinking about ME; they are thinking about themselves—worrying about THEIR worth, wondering if they’re enough, comparing themselves to the rest of the world. My job is not to live up to the mythical jury’s expectations; rather, it is to be tender toward my whole self; to value my intrinsic worth; and to live up to my own gifts as best I can. What a freedom this realization brings. And it also brings with it a more honest and generous way of loving and giving to others. It’s one of the great mysteries of this human life: how tenderness towards oneself leads to a more relaxed and real love of others."
