About the Job: In a fast-paced, results-oriented environment, the primary role of the Communications Department is to provide internal and external communications support and consulting in support of Clerk & Comptroller’s diverse direct-service operations. Activities are focused on increasing public awareness of the office’s role and relevance; positioning the office as a world-class leader in customer service, employee satisfaction and standards of excellence and facilitating open communication with employees, stakeholders and the media. We are seeking a Communications Specialist to gather, write, and edit communication materials that support the Clerk & Comptroller’s strategic direction, vision, mission and values. The Communications Specialist uses his or her knowledge of office functions and specialized knowledge of communications best practices to research, plan, and implement communication initiatives. In addition, this role researches, drafts, proofreads, and/or edits communications materials including executive-level messages and speeches, media releases, and office publications. Role of Position: The successful candidate will be assigned to the writing and editing area and perform the essential functions as outlined above, as well as perform the following functions: + Develops, writes, edits, and improves communications aimed at internal audiences; writes copy for print, broadcast and interactive media; ensures effective and efficient communications; updates copy and scripts as needed + Proactively and creatively develops correspondence, speeches and presentations on all matters related to the role of the Clerk & Comptroller for internal and external audiences + Edits submissions from content providers; prepares copy for Internet and intranet Web sites and office publications + Consults with internal customers on developing effective communication strategies and ongoing customized messaging + Plans and coordinates the collection and compilation of communications materials; organizes and catalogs publications; manages systems and processes for disseminating communications material and information; coordinates and/or oversees distribution of communications + Internal updates and crisis communications in the event of a natural disaster or other emergency event; assists security team in creating, updating, and implementing emergency notification procedures and continuity of operations plans; works with external communications to coordinate related external crisis communications as necessary + Employs various methods and measures to monitor, analyze and refine communications strategies and programs + Coordinates and assists on special projects and tasks as needed + Researches, drafts, proofreads, and/or edits communications materials including executive-level messages and speeches, media releases, and office publications; ensures consistency in communications; ensures communications are in alignment with the Clerk & Comptroller’s strategic direction, vision, mission and values + Initiates or assists in proactive media and community outreach and dissemination of information to the media and general public; prepares media releases; assists with reporting newsworthy activities and functions to the public/media; promotes awareness of the Clerk’s office in the community Job Requirements for the Ideal Candidate” The ideal candidate will play a key role in the communications department and also enjoy the experience of being a part of a large governmental agency or public relations organizations along with the following: + Bachelor’s Degree in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Speech, English or related field; + Supplemented by three (3) years of recent, relevant experience communications, internal communications or community relations; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. + Able to react and adjust quickly to changing environments Salary stated above is annual, negotiable depending on qualifications Background: The Clerk & Comptroller’s office is a drug-free workplace.
