#JUSTATHOUGHT.... MALARIA THE ENERGY DRAINER. By Barkachai Keitany In the year 1993, as I was drinking my favourite Uji cooked with Blue Band, the spoon I was using dropped off my hand, I felt so weak and slept which was unusual as my Mum puts it. She knew me to always finish up my food then go round playing the whole day before sleeping at 9.00 Pm. I have no slight idea what transpired but am informed I was profusely sweating and kept on blinking my eyes. I was hurriedly carried on by Mum and Auntie and by 3.00Pm they got a vehicle and off we were to Kabarnet District Hospital. God is great since I am informed I woke up at 11.00pm and started screaming, What are these fires up here? Coming from a village, i had never seen a bulb and a white painted room. I also think I was just too young to comprehend how I landed there yet the last thing I was doing was eating porridge, I was hospitalised for about 2 weeks and I remember so well crying a lot whenever I saw a doctor come with Syringe. I would always shout (Sitaki yule Baba wa Kalamu.) all in Kalenjin whenever he would walk round the ward. I had a problem even after being discharged as anyone with a pen to me was an enemy who wanted to Inject me, I even went to School late because I was afraid of the Kalamu, I was traumatised. So Today as people mark WORLD MALARIA DAY let us put our minds together if you have ever had a brush with this killer disease. Am informed Kabarnet Town Administration and the entire County Government planted trees. God forbid but as we talk, there is no rain and farmers have stopped planting and are waiting for rain. Kwani do this guys have town made rain or what?, they say it will be watered sawa that is Job creation okay. For me today am marking an important day and praying God the Mortalities from Malaria are minimized.
