‘Jesus or Us ?’ ; Jeremiah 2:1-13 says ‘’I remember the devotion of your youth, your love has a bride, how you followed me in the wilderness……..can a girl forget her ornaments or a bride her attire? And yet my people have forgotten me, days without number’’. ‘’The Jews tried to keep Jesus contained within their law, while the Greeks sought to turn Him into a philosophy, the Europeans reduced Him to a culture, Americans have made a business of Him and for Africans I would put it like we take God has a mystery, story and some supernatural being belonging to other so called special people’’ •To the early church Jesus was the Lord God, •They looked upon with great wonder and overwhelming admiration and respect. •They worshipped with great love and adoration. •They served Him with tears and treasures. •They died for Him humbly and honorably e.g. Stephen and the Apostles, etc. But today times have changed, we can seldomly and rarely find such people in the church today; We have post modern church goers who don’t take God so serious •This generation has learnt to view life and everything in a ‘’take it easy’’ manner. So they take Jesus as a buddy and addition of life, or an option.. •Get to know God personally just like Paul says ‘’I want to know Him and the power of His Resurrection’’- Phil 3:10 »Isaiah felt dizzy when he saw the Lord in His glory. »Daniel fell on his knees in the presence of the Lord »John was a prostrate like a dead man before the Lord. »Angels bow before Him day and night before Him. These people understood and knew God better. The problem is that we don’t know His greatness, we’re adamant about how little we are and we don’t have the fear of the Lord and wrongly focused. We think and confess more about ourselves and not Jesus. We have removed ‘’Jes’’ from ‘’Jesus’’ remaining with ‘’us’’. It gives us a sense of going back to our first love we had for God, how passionate we were at first and how it burns and consumes our heart. Jeremiah pictures God as a lover who has been rejected and abandoned. We see God first loving us by sacrificing His only son, He gave up being God and He came to earth as a human being. He sought us as His disciples and people (like the Israelites so were as a sheep without a Shepherd). Don’t only worship God with Your lips when your hearts are far away from Him. If you’re caught as a trespasser in this issue, now get on your knees with me and let’s confess and desire more of God to replace our self-centeredness.
