(Jesus said) “You are the salt of the earth; but if salt has lost its taste, how can its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything, but is thrown out and trampled under foot. You are the light of the world. A city built on a hill cannot be hid. No one after lighting a lamp puts it under the bushel basket, but on a lamp stand, and it gives light to all in the house...." Matthew 5:13-14 We work in a profession where there is a distinct separation of church and state. We are not able to openly proclaim our faith to others. But Jesus tells us that we are the salt of the earth and the light of the world. The salt preserves the meat. The light illumines the house. We are to be the preservatives and the illumination. Our actions, our words, our character speaks to who we are. Even though we cannot openly proclaim Christ, people can tell that we are in Christ by who we are. We can still work for the betterment of the world. We are not to lose our saltiness and light. We must continue, in a variety of different ways. Today, think of different ways that you may be salt and light to the communities you serve. Radiant and glorious God, we give you thanks for sending your son to this world. Through the Holy Spirit, may we continue to be the salt and the light, helping to preserve and illumine your creation. Amen.
