“Jesus’ teachings were not all warm and fluffy sayings for peaceniks. The startling truth is that Jesus told His followers that if they valued relationships and peace more than they valued the truth of His message, they were not worthy of Him. If His Word was not more important than their acceptance by family, friends and colleagues at work – they weren’t really following Him at all – they were idolizing acceptance. Many believers confronted by the harsh tactics of the current movements on campuses and in workplace environments dedicated to the re-shaping of American moral definition are facing that very choice right now. Here is the warning by the Savior: Either we stand by His teaching, or we gain acceptance by forfeiting that teaching because it has been framed as intolerant and unloving. “Acceptance” is the new watchword for all forms of license, but is not reciprocated for things Christian. Those who, because of a misguided sense of love and tolerance, toss aside the Scriptural injunctions should hear the words of the Savior: In the day when you stand before the Father, don’t expect Me to testify that I know you – I won’t.” (Reflections on Matthew 10)
