. John 11:32-37 Then, when Mary came where Jesus was, and saw Him, she fell down at His feet, saying to Him, “Lord, if You had been here, my brother would not have died.” Therefore, when Jesus saw her weeping, and the Jews who came with her weeping, He groaned in the spirit and was troubled. And He said, “Where have you laid him?” They said to Him, “Lord, come and see.” Jesus wept. Then the Jews said, “See how He loved him!” And some of them said, “Could not this Man, who opened the eyes of the blind, also have kept this man from dying?” Jesus is not distant and detached from our everyday lives. He is not unaware of the pain and heartache that we feel. Jesus shares an emotional moment here with Mary, sister to Lazarus, who has just died. Mary believes her brother to be dead for good, and addresses Jesus as if there may have been something he could do (past tense). Jesus’ response reveals to us that God desires relationship with us, not simply to rule over us. He weeps with Mary and experiences her loss, even though I’m sure He is aware of what He is going to do next. I cannot imagine the complexity of how Jesus is able to do this, but He is. Case and point: there is healing in showing God your emotions. Become vulnerable before the throne of grace and look to Him to restore you. He is able to do it!
