#JustIn Uganda Cranes will face Mauritania in the second preliminary round of the 2015 Africa Nations Cup qualifiers after CAF has disqualified Equatorial Guinea. The West African nations had defeated Mauritania 3-1 on aggregate in the first round to set up a date with The Cranes but CAF has found them guilty of fielding an ineligible player in their victory. This was confirmed by the competition’s organizing committee in a communication which stated that Equatorial Guinea used a player of Cameroonian origin named as Thiery Fidieu Tazemeta and the decision was reached on July 3 following a protest by Mauritania FA. “The Organizing committee of AFCON has disqualified Equatorial Guinea from the play offs of AFCON Morocco 2015 in a decision reached 3rd July,” read part of the statement. “The decision to qualify Equatorial Guinea follows a protest brought by the Mauritania Football Association insisting the former fielded an ineligible player Thiery Fidieu Tazameta in the first round playoff on May 17, 2014 in Nouakchott,” it adds. CAF confirmed that the player in question was born in Cameroon on October 13, 1982 and Equatorial Guinea failed to provide evidence he was legible to play for them. “Thierry Fidieu Tazemeta, was born 13 Oct 1982 in Mbouda, according to Federation of Cameroonian football and Equatorial Guinea didnt provide evidence Tazemeta was eligible to represent them or complied with FIFA Statutes on change of association.” “Consequently, Mauritania is qualified to next playoff round of AFCON 2015 & national team of Equatorial Guinea is deemed to be eliminated. Mauritania now proceed to engage Uganda in final playoff round with 1st leg on 19 July in Kampala to kickoff at 16:00hrs, local time,” concluded a statement. It remains unknown whether the West Africans will appeal the decision but it’s clear CAF won’t reverse their ruling.
