-Justice Prevails Ultimately- Story of Jasmine (Name Changed) #MaitNepal Jasmine, a resident of Sakhejung VDC of Ilam was just 13 years old when she was trafficked to Delhi, India by one of the person she met while working at a stone quarry. As a child, her rights were violated when she had to work at an early age and was not given proper care after the death of her mother. She was trafficked to Delhi with a promise of giving her a blissful life in a city. She was locked up in a room, raped brutally for months and not even paid for working as a house-maid. After some months, she could finally escape from there and resorted for help to one of the Indian lady who helped her return back to Nepal. Back in her village, she caught hold of her traffickers with the help of the local people and police. Her life was at danger as the relatives of the traffickers’ threatened to kill her. At this moment, Maiti Nepal transpired to be a safe shelter home for Jasmine where she got the opportunity to not only be safe from the traffickers’ relatives but as well her dream of continuing her studies come true. While Maiti Nepal rigorously continued lobbying for the case, Jasmine continued her schooling in Kathmandu. Finally on 7th May 2014, her traffickers Chattre B.K. of Barbote, Ilam and Manmaya B.K. of Sakhejung, Ilam were convicted of their crime whereby they were sentenced for 20 years imprisonment and a compensation of 2 hundred thousand rupees.
