***Juveniles, Fit4Life and Seniors at Remembrance Run, Phoenix - TopicsExpress

***Juveniles, Fit4Life and Seniors at Remembrance Run, Phoenix Park, Sunday 9th November*** The 3rd annual Remembrance Run saw a huge turnout of approximately 100 participants and stewards from the club on a dry and mild morning. Our own John Holian was race director again this year, so we were guaranteed a well organised event even before 30 of our clubmates took up their positions to steward and encourage us (whilst also raising valuable funds for our club). On that note, the award for the most supportive stewards goes to the Foys and their posse. Many thanks! With 3,500 people, the event was bigger and better than ever. As you will have seen in their report, Dunboyne Fit4Youth played their part in this and we were delighted to see them lining up with their Fit4Life mentors, numbering approx 30 in total. Our sporty and sporting teenagers were fantastic ambassadors for Dunboyne AC. Congrats to our teenagers and their coaches and mentors. As expected the biggest turnout was from Fit4Life but the Seniors and Juveniles also fielded some of their finest too. It was a familiar 5K route for some of us, starting on Chesterfield Avenue, down Ordnance Survey, through the Furry Glen and finishing on Furze Road. At the tender age of 10, Ailbhe Kennedy already knew the route, gave us a heads-up about the tough hill in the Furry Glen and we were able to follow her game plan to climb it. The memory of loved ones, thoughts of those going through a hard time, the gospel choir and our fellow clubmates, both participating and stewarding, made the 5 kilometres fly by. Hearing there was no chip timing this year was like hearing the teacher wouldnt be in and most of us took it as licence to savour the poignant and celebratory atmosphere and enjoy a relaxed pace with family and friends. Of course some (a small minority we suspect) raced to the best of their ability. The run was well organised to cater for either approach. At the finish line we received a Remembrance Run candle in lieu of the more usual t-shirt; a thoughtful substitution given the theme of the day. Congratulations to our clubmate John Holian and his Athletics Ireland colleagues on a well organised event and above all, for creating a fun and celebratory atmosphere balanced with dignity and respect. We think Remembrance Run will be on our shortlist for many years to come. Here is a list of the participants and stewards we saw. Apologies, we know it is a little incomplete, so if we have missed you please just let us know by commenting here and we will add your name. Well done again to all our clubmates, family and friends who stewarded and participated. ***Participants: Abigail Carrick Ailbhe Kennedy Ana Quigley Angela Egan Angela Walsh Ann Kennedy Anne Gorman Anne Hickey Billy Brannigan Chloe Coyne Clare McCarthy Dave Galbraith David Byrne Deirdre Traynor Edel McGinn Emily Ryan Fiona ODwyer Fiona Tobin Georgia Dillon Ger Solan Geraldine Fagan Jackie Brannigan James Dillon Joan Hodgins Johanna ODriscoll Karen Whelan Kay Gilmartin Liz Harte Louise Brady Louise Taylor Majella McNamara Margaret Rowan Maria Hughes Marie Tobin Martin Dillon Martina Leonard Niamh Geran Patricia Gallagher Ruth ODwyer Sarah Marie Hamilton Sheila Coyne Sheila Finlay Shirley Benton-Bailey Siobhan Campbell Steven Griffin & the Alltech crew Teresa Collins Terrie Forbes Vivienne Lennon ***Volunteers / Stewards: 1 Seamus Dunne 2 Ellen Holian 3 Evelyn Merriman 4 Noeleen Fallon 5 Tom Fallon 6 Annette Finlay 7 Lyndon Thomas 8 Teresa Smith 9 Siobhan Lavin 10 Michelle Wall 11 Mick Foy 12 Sarah Foy 13 Kirsten Foy 14 Mick Foy +1 15 Mick Foy +1 16 Donal Cashin 17 Alan Mc Kernan (Donal has volunteered Alan - something about a lot of making up to do :) ) 18 Geoff Hamilton 19 Paul Gorey 20 Jonathan Martin 21 Ray Mitchell 22 John Mitchell 23 Michael Hanlon 24 Daniel Hanlon 25 John Dempsey 26 Eoin Dempsey 27 John O Reilly 28 Michael Cornyn 29 Gerard Plante 30 Noreen Plante 31 Pat Ryan
