:: KACHIN RELIEF UPDATE In November, a Partners relief team visited Border Post 8, high in the mountains near the China-Burma border for the first time. Located 9,500 feet above sea level, 626 displaced Kachin have been living for 3 years. On this first visit to the Border Post 8 camp what we found was similar to other camps in the area. Winter is rapidly approaching and the community told us that there will be a foot of snow in the camp during winter time and it will be five feet deep in the surrounding area. Thankfully, they were warned before the Burma Army came so they were able to run away before the Burma Army attacked. Their village now has land mines around it and so is not currently safe to go back. Our team were able to provide woollen hats to children at the school as well as providing hygiene supplies to the community. Recently, Kachin Community Based groups and the Kachin Independence Organisation have recently highlighted the plight of this community.
