*** KEY FIRST AID UPDATES FROM HABC *** To keep you regularly informed on the latest developments in first-aid, we are pleased to provide you with the following news updates: SIA Endorsement of the HABC Level 3 Award in First Aid Response We can now announce that the HABC Level 3 Award in First Aid Response has been approved by the Security Industry Authority (“SIA”) to support users applying for a Close Protection Licence. This qualification is priced at just £25+VAT per learner. For further information, please click here: highfieldabc/FirstAid/Level3FAR.aspx. Update on Assessment and Quality Assurance As the Awarding Organisation that listens, we have had numerous requests to align the assessment and quality assurance of the HABC Level 2 Award in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Automated External Defibrillation (QCF) to the HABC Level 2 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work (QCF) and the HABC Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work (QCF). In response to this, from 12 May 2014 this qualification will be available on the HABC Learner Management System (LMS) and will allow assessment and quality assurance through ongoing practical demonstration and open response assessment. Centres are advised to review the revised qualification materials to ensure they are ready and equipped to deliver this new provision. Further information can be found in the specification for this qualification on the HABC website, with assessment paperwork being available in the HABC members Download Area. This new form of assessment will run alongside the current system until 1 December 2014. After this date we expect that only the ongoing practical demonstration and open response assessment will be available to Centres. We have worked hard to ensure that this new assessment method is not only learner-focused and cost effective but the transition for Centres is as seamless as possible. In order to support you as a Centre during this transition, we would like to offer a FREE automatic approval from the old to the new. Centres wishing to update their portfolio to include the above qualifications should contact their Account Manager. Please also note that the fee for this qualification has been reduced to £4.75+VAT per learner registration. Qualification specifications There have recently been a number of queries regarding the requirements to deliver QCF-accredited qualifications from the first-aid industry. As a result, we have updated our first-aid qualification specifications (which align with the Assessment Principles developed and agreed by Skills for Health, HSE and the First Aid Awarding Body Working Group) to illustrate and simplify these requirements for industry understanding – we hope you find these new specifications helpful. HABC Level 2 Award in Paediatric First Aid (QCF) update In response to feedback to align the paediatric first aid qualification with other HABC first aid qualifications, and after joint consultation with first aid awarding organisations forum, the HABC Level 2 Award in Paediatric First Aid (QCF) will be replaced with the HABC Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid (QCF) from 1 September 2014. Registrations on the HABC Level 2 Award in Paediatric First Aid (QCF) will now cease on 31 August 2014. Once again thank you for your ongoing support.
