***Keeping Homeless People Safe in the Heat*** While it is acknowledged that long-term housing is the most sought after solution for the homelessness problem in Melbourne, the City of Melbourne is trying to assist the homeless population during the summer heat by issuing free passes to cinemas and swimming pools, opening homeless centres for longer hours in the daytime, and providing information on places to stay cool in an effort to help them stay out of the scorching weather. This is through the Heatwave and Homeless Strategy and, although an interim solution, is a positive and welcome initiative.
