@KenyaRugbyUnion: "Rugby goes to the Mountain" Nairobi, Tuesday 16 July 2013 Located on the slopes of Mount Kenya, Nanyuki is associated with many things, tourism, horticulture, military bases and hopefully in the years to come, rugby. A team from the Kenya Rugby Union paid a visit to the town on Thursday 11 July 2013, conducting a joint training session with students of the host school Brickwood High School and two other schools, Nanyuki High School and Gathiru High School. KRU Development Co-ordinator Malik Ndemi, speaking after the sessions, said, " I was impressed by their skill levels, their talent and of course their enthusiasm. The task at hand is to keep them interested in the game, even post high school. We intend to conduct similar sessions, not only in this region but countrywide as well as we spread the rugby gospel." Francis Mathenge, a Brickwood School Director praised the initiative, saying, " It is indeed a great honor to have visitors from the Kenya Rugby Union pay us a visit. The knowledge and skills they have imparted to the boys and girls here are part of the rugby seed being planted. We are taking this sport seriously and plan to be there among the best in no time at all." The KRU team used the opportunity to donate rugby balls to be used by the three schools. The Nanyuki visit also handed the KRU team the opportunity to interact with the organizing committee of the inaugural Mount Kenya 10s to be held on 28/29 September at the Nanyuki Sports Club. Patrick Mwangi and Steve Njoka on behalf of the organizing committee appreciated their input and said they were determined to deliver a well organized tournament. ~ KRU Media & Communications
