#KitchenFest Day 6| Sometimes you realize you are in the midst of something special. Thats happened a few times. Sting concert a few years (ok, maybe decades) back when I realized Cowboy Junkies were the opening. Became the best concert lifetime. The Richmond Folk Festival two (or three) years ago. Doing cuts from their then-yet to be released, but subsequently award winning album, the Mary Jane Lamond & Wendy MacIsaac Band ( MaryJane, Wendy, Cathy Porter and Seph Peters) opened the entire Festival with a set that completely captured the crowd and made me so damn proud I had a hard time containing it. Best set lifetime. Listening for the first time (of about 5000 times since) to Niamh Stauntons vocals and Solas instrumentals on Am I Born to Die, a cut from the bands then yet to be released, but subsequently ravely reviewed, Shamrock City album. Best song, lifetime. And then last night, on the sixth and final venue-based pub night of #KitchenFest at the The Red Shoe Pub (Official), The Beaton Sisters Band (Dawn, Margie, Kenneth MacKenzie and Jason Roach). There is a reason that the last three months of music are bookended at the front by seeing The Beaton Sisters band at the Orkney Folk Festival and at the end seeing the very same band at #KitchenFest. But last night they outdid even themselves and my huge expectations. Best three hours of music, lifetime. Just wow. Thanks gang; it was something beyond ....
