He is always refreshing to read. He is clear, because he thinks from basic Catholic principles. He is transparent, because he has nothing to hide. He is unambiguous, because he is not trying to compromise Our Lord’s Church with Satan’s Vatican II. But notice how the interviewer’s questions indicate that the readership of Fideliter was naturally inclining to take the direction which the Society of St Pius X would begin to take a few years after the Archbishop’s death. Here is a selection of the questions and answers, somewhat abbreviated:— Q: Why can you not make one last approach to Rome? We hear the Pope is “ready to receive you.” A: That is absolutely impossible, because the principles which now guide the Conciliar church are more and more openly contrary to Catholic doctrine. For instance Cardinal Ratzinger recently said that the Popes’ great anti-modernist documents of the 19 th and 20 th centuries rendered a great service in their day, but are now outdated. And John-Paul II is more ecumenical than ever (1990). “It is absolutely inconceivable that we can agree to work with such a hierarchy.” Q; Has the situation in Rome deteriorated even since the negotiations of 1988? A: Oh yes! “We will have to wait some time before considering the prospect of making an agreement. For my part I believe that God alone can save the situation, as humanly we see no possibility of Rome straightening things out.” Q: But there are Traditionalists who have made an agreement with Rome while conceding nothing. A: That is false. They have given up their ability to oppose Rome. They must remain silent, given the favours they have been granted. Then they begin to slide ever so slowly, until they end up admitting the errors of Vatican II. “It’s a very dangerous situation.” Such concessions by Rome are meant only to get Traditionalists to break with the SSPX and submit to Rome. Q: You say that such Traditionalists have “betrayed.” Isn’t that a bit harsh? A: Not at all! For instance Dom Gérard made use of me, of the SSPX and its chapels and benefactors, and now they suddenly abandon us and join with the destroyers of the Faith. They have abandoned the fight for the Faith. They can no longer attack Rome. They have understood nothing of the doctrinal question. It is awful to think of the youngsters who joined them for the sake of Tradition and are now following them to Conciliar Rome. Q: Is there a danger in remaining friends with Traditionalists who have gone over to Rome, and in attending their Masses? A: Yes, because at Mass there is not only the Mass but there is also the sermon, the atmosphere, the surroundings, the conversations before and after Mass, and so on. All of these things make you little by little change your ideas. There is a climate of ambiguity. One is in an atmosphere submissive to the Vatican, subject ultimately to the Council, so one ends up by becoming ecumenical. Q; John-Paul II is very popular. He wants to unite all Christians. A: But in what unity? No longer in the Faith which a soul must accept, and which calls for conversion. The Church has been distorted, from being a hierarchical society into being a “communion.” Communion in what? Not in the Faith. No wonder one hears that Catholics are leaving the Faith in droves. Die letzte Ausgabe der englischen Zeitschrift The Recusant (therecusant.) brachte eine Übersetzung des letzten Gespräches der französischen Zeitschrift Fideliter (Nr. 79) mit Erzbischof Lefebvre kurz vor seinem Tode im März 1991. Es ist immer erfrischend, den Erzbischof zu lesen. Er ist klar, weil sein Denken von katholischen Grundlagen ausgeht.. Er ist transparent, weil er nichts zu verbergen hat. Er ist unzweideutig, weil er nicht versucht, die Kirche unseres Herrn mit dem Zweiten Vatikanischen Konzil des Teufels zu kompromittieren. Beachten wir allerdings die Fragestellungen des Fideliter, welche andeuten, daß die Leserschaft der Zeitschrift schon zu jener Richtung hinneigte, welche die Bruderschaft dann einige Jahre nach dem Tod des Erzbischofs tatsächlich einschlagen würde. Folgend eine Auswahl von verkürzten Fragen und Antworten: Frage: Warum versuchen Sie nicht eine letzte Annäherung an Rom? Man hört, daß der Papst „bereit ist, Sie zu empfangen.“ Erzbischof Lefebvre (EBL): Dieser Schritt ist absolut unmöglich, weil die heute in der konziliaren Kirche maßgebenden Grundsätze immer mehr und immer offener der katholischen Lehre widersprechen. Beispielsweise sagte Kardinal Ratzinger kürzlich, daß die berühmten anti-modernistischen Dokumente der Päpste vom 19. und 20. Jahrhundert zu ihrer Zeit einen großen Dienst geleistet hätten, jetzt aber überholt seien. Und Johannes Paul II. ist ökumenistischer als jemals zuvor (1990). „ Es ist absolut unvorstellbar und nicht akzeptabel, mit einer derartigen Hierarchie zusammenzuarbeiten.“ Frage: Ist die Situation in Rom noch schlechter geworden seit den Gesprächen im Jahre 1988? EBL: Ja! „ Man muß abwarten, bevor man die Aussicht auf ein Übereinkommen in Betracht ziehen kann. Nach meiner Einschätzung kann nur der liebe Gott die Situation noch retten, weil menschlich gesprochen keine Möglichkeit für Rom besteht, diese verfahrene Lage wieder ins Lot zu bringen. Frage: Aber es gibt Traditionalisten, welche mit Rom ein Abkommen schlossen, ohne etwas preiszugeben. EBL: Das ist falsch. Sie haben die Möglichkeit preisgegeben, Rom entgegenzutreten. Sie müssen schweigen angesichts der Vergünstigungen, welche ihnen gewährt wurden. Allmählich schwenken sie dann langsam um und enden schließlich bei der Anerkennung der falschen Ideen des Konzils. „Das ist eine sehr gefährliche Situation.“ Solche römischen Zugeständnisse werden nur gewährt, um zu erreichen, daß die Traditionalisten mit der Bruderschaft brechen und Rom sich unterwerfen. Frage: Sie sagen, daß solche Traditionalisten einen „Verrat“ begangen haben. Ist das nicht etwas streng? EBL: Nein. Beispielsweise benutzte Dom Gérard mich, die Bruderschaft und ihre Kapellen und Wohltäter. Jetzt auf einen Schlag haben sie uns nicht mehr nötig und haben sich mit den Glaubenszerstörern vereinigt. Sie haben den wahren Kampf um den Glauben aufgegeben. Sie können Rom nicht mehr entgegentreten. Diese Menschen haben in der Frage der Lehre nichts verstanden. Es ist schrecklich, an die jungen Männer zu denken, welche bei ihnen eingetreten sind, um wahrhaft in der Tradition zu leben, nun aber ins konzilare Rom ihnen folgen. Frage: Ist es gefährlich, gute Beziehungen mit den nach Rom übergelaufenen Traditionalisten aufrechtzuerhalten und ihre Messen zu besuchen? EBL: Ja, weil bei dieser Messe es nicht nur die Messe gibt, sondern auch die Predigt, die Atmosphäre, das Drumherum, die Gespräche und Kontakte vorher und nachher. Alle diese Dinge führen dazu, daß man ganz langsam seine Gesinnung ändert. Es herrscht ein Klima der Zweideutigkeit und eine Atmosphäre, welche dem Vatikan und letztendlich dem Konzil unterworfen ist, und so wird man schließlich Ökumenist. Frage: Papst Johannes Paul II. ist sehr populär. Er will alle Christen vereinen. EBL: Eine Einheit womit? Das ist nicht länger eine Einheit jenes katholischen Glaubens, den wir annehmen müssen und der eine Konversion verlangt. Die Kirche wurde deformiert, von einer hierarchischen Gesellschaft zu einer „Gemeinschaft.“ Gemeinschaft worin? Jedenfalls nicht im Glauben. Lire ses écrits fait toujours du bien, parce qu’il rattache sa pensée toujours aux principes catholiques de base.. Il est transparent, car il n’a rien à cacher. Il n’est pas ambigu, car il ne cherche pas de compromis entre l’Église de Notre Seigneur et le Concile Vatican II de Satan. Mais remarquez à quel point les questions posées par celui qui mène l’entrevue indiquent que les lecteurs de Fideliter inclinaient déjà à suivre la nouvelle direction qu’allaient prendre les autorités de la Fraternité Saint Pie X quelques années après la mort de Mgr. Ils doivent garder le silence, étant données les faveurs dont ils ont été l’objet. Mais dès qu’ils se taisent, ils commencent à glisser, même très lentement, jusqu’à ce qu’ils finissent par admettre les erreurs de Vatican II. « Ils se trouvent dans une situation très dangereuse ». De telles concessions de la part de Rome ont pour seul but d’amener les Traditionnalistes à rompre avec la FSPX et à se soumettre à Rome. Q : Vous dites que de tels Traditionnalistes ont « trahi ». N’est-ce pas un peu dur ? R : Pas du tout ! Par exemple Dom Gérard s’est servi de moi, de la FSPX, de nos chapelles et de nos bienfaiteurs, et maintenant tout d’un coup son monastère nous abandonne pour rejoindre les destructeurs de la Foi. Ils ont abandonné le combat de la Foi. Ils ne peuvent plus désormais attaquer Rome. Ils n’ont rien compris à la question doctrinale. Il est affreux de penser aux jeunes qui les ont rejoints pour trouver la Tradition et qui sont maintenant en train de les suivre vers la Rome Conciliaire. Q : Existe-t’il un danger à rester ami avec des Traditionnalistes qui ont rejoint Rome, et à assister à leurs Messes ? R : Oui, parce qu’à la Messe il n’y a pas seulement la Messe mais il y a aussi le sermon, l’atmosphère, l’ambiance, les conversations avant et après la Messe, et ainsi de suite. Toutes ces choses font que petit à petit on change d’idées. C’est un climat d’ambigüité. On se retrouve dans une atmosphère de soumission au Vatican, soumission en fin de compte au Concile, et l’on finit par se faire œcuménique. Q : Jean Paul II est très populaire. Il veut unir tous les Chrétiens. R : Mais dans quelle unité ? Non plus dans la Foi qu’une âme doit accepter, et qui requiert la conversion.
