“Lessons From The Book Of Judges” The Book of Judges opens, “Now after the death of Moses, it came to pass, that the children of Israel asked the Lord” (1:1). It closes with these words, “…every man did that which was right in his own eyes” (21:25 b). How tragic. Rev. Walter Beutler, my college Bible teacher, outlined the chaos that existed when everybody did their own thing. There are consequences: 1. Individual religious degeneration- chp. 17 2. National religious degeneration- chp. 18 3. Moral degeneration- chp. 19 4. Political degeneration- chp. 20 5. Social degeneration- chp. 21 Is that not a sad picture of present day America? May we learn these lessons from history before it’s too late. May we once again, “…ASK THE LORD.” It’s the only way to prevent our nation from the degeneration that enveloped Israel. We need God’s direction, protection, and blessing.
