“Let the 500th anniversary of the Reformation be not a celebration of our historical and doctrinal divisions but a celebration of our dialogue even within our differences, of our unity, our mutual respect and love for each other,” Madden said. “In this way, we can say we are collaborators in the work of the Lord who is always and ever ‘making all things new.” The latter quote is drawn from Revelation 21:5, which has Christ sitting on the throne in heaven declaring, “Behold, I am making all things new.” The following year will emphasize “other traditions,” Kusserow wrote, “especially our full communion partners, to promote better and more widespread sharing of gifts that each tradition brings to the work of unity under Christ.” The Evangelical Lutheran denomination has full communion with other Lutheran World Federation churches, as well as the Episcopal Church in the United States of America, Presbyterian Church USA, Reformed Church in America, United Church of Christ, United Methodist Church and Moravian Church in America.
