Letters from Prisoners. August 8, 2014 Namaste. I’m a Zen Buddhist monk and a twenty year practitioner of hatha yoga. For the past several years I’ve been conducting yoga classes in the OSP Mental Health unit where I’m employed as a Behavior Health Services counselor and mentor. I have a Special Forces (military) and private contractor background. I’m serving two life-without sentences for ag. murder. I just discovered James Fox’s book. It’s absolutely “right-on.” With your permission, I want to use it in my classes. How may I obtain three more copies so that I can loan them out in a controlled way? My congratulations to James for producing the perfect yoga presentation for prison use. Perhaps we can share information. Please be well, Prisoner Oregon State Penetentiary Salem OR 97310 ***** Prison Yoga Project, I would like to know if it is possible that I can receive the book “Yoga: A Path for Healing and Recovery.” Thank you for helping us and mucha y buena salud para todos. Gracias. Prisoner Pamlico Corr. Inst. Bayboro NC 28515 ***** PYP: I have endured prison for 25 years. I have traveled many paths while in here. I’m interested in your manual. Please send a copy and anything that is gratis. I thank you sincerely. Humbly, Prisoner Texas Dept. of Crim. Justice Michael Unit Tennessee Colony TX 75886 ***** Prison Yoga Project, I’ve been meditating on and off for years. I don’t know if I want to be able to do it better or just need more stuff to read. Shoot me anything that would be of help and believe me, anything would be of help. Thank you, Prisoner Texas Dept. of Crim. Justice Buster Cole Unit Bonham TX 75418 ***** PYP, I’m writing to receive a free copy of your 100 page yoga manual. Many people have told me I should try yoga to relax and be stress free. I finally decided to alleviate their concerns. While I do have little-to-no patience I’m willing to give it a try, if only for my health. I hope it works because I’m irritable and I’m a worrier. Thank you for your time and patience! Prisoner Texas Dept. of Crim. Justice Wallace Unit Colorado City TX 79512 ***** Honorable Sir or Madam, Please, about 3 years ago I was introduced to your project and obtained the truly wonderful book of Yoga. I made a chart of the poses and shared the book with another, who then got transferred on the High Security wing. But, I have somewhat mastered practically all the poses. We’re in Texas’ version of California’s SHG, in which we seldom are permitted out-of-cell activity due to “being short staffed.” So, we’ve had to learn to become reclusive. I am caged near multiple races of different faiths, but as I have continued my strict disciplined quest, others have inquired and I’ve explained that I was fortunate to have stumbled upon this project. I am humbly requesting a re-issued book. Please. I’ve taken out the chapters and made sequences of poses to assist instead of flipping pages. I made boards. The sad element here is, TX prisons do not pay or provide funds to us so numerous don’t even have access to postage. Indigent offenders are authorized 5 stamps a month. So, others don’t have the ability to write for such a blessed book. Thank you, Prisoner Texas Dept. of Crim. Justice Allred Unit Iowa Park TX 76367 If you would like to ease a prisoner’s suffering, please send a book. You can also send a book to a prisoner you designate. Or buy one for yourself. Go to prisonyoga.org/store/yoga-book/ . You may never set foot in prison but you can change a prisoner’s life.
