Letters from Prisoners, July 30, 2014. In a recent note from - TopicsExpress

Letters from Prisoners, July 30, 2014. In a recent note from the Human Kindness Foundation, they advise us that sending a book to a prisoner now costs roughly $3.50 for postage and materials. For the past year HKF has been funding the postage and doing the handling, which has been a huge relief to Prison Yoga Project. It costs almost $6 to print and ship a book to a prisoner. Its a small price to relieve human suffering but we cold use some help in meeting this expense. Will you help HKF and PYP get books to these prisoners? Dear Prison Yoga Project, My name is ___________ and I’m writing from Trumbull Corr. Institution in Ohio. I have been carrying your book around with me for two years now. One month ago I finally decided to put it to use. All I keep thinking is “why did I wait so long?” Your book is a lifesaver to me and many others here. The book is great. It has opened my mind to search for answers and I feel that yoga is the path that will lead me to a bright future. If it is at all possible I would appreciate all types of yoga related material – never too much of a good thing. Thank you; hope to hear from you soon. Sincerely, Prisoner Trumbull Corr. Inst. Leavittsburg OH 44430 ***** Dear Mr. Fox, I’m a 78 year old inmate who saw a copy of your book belonging to another inmate. If possible I would appreciate greatly a copy of Yoga, A Path for Healing and Recovery. I have studied some yoga through the years – however, I find your book probably one of the most complete I have ever read, especially the breathing and meditation sections. Even as an ‘ol’ man’ I continue to work out 6 days a week. And, since including yoga in my workouts I have found my health still increasing for the better. I look forward to receiving your book and would be interested in any other information you might be able to provide. My best to you and yours and continued success in your work. Sincerely, Prisoner Texas Dept. of Criminal Justice Ramsay Unit Rosharon TX 77583 ***** Dear Prison Yoga Project, I have been incarcerated for 20 years and in administrative segregation. Because of this isolation I have seen myself become solemn and reclusive. With only 1 hr. outside cell a day and limited contact with other human beings it can get to you. Some I’ve known with longer time than mine, these are others with nothing but 35 years of solitary, have become crazy or suicidal. I have been interested in meditation for awhile and at times just try to quiet my mind. With no access to library or books on instruction I was very anxious to contact your project. My only outlet for some sanity has been exercise and now that I am getting older, 43 yrs, I cannot keep up with the pace of my body break down. Is it too late to become a good practicer of meditation? I’m sure that with the proper instruction I’ll be able to use it to stay with a right focused mind. Thank you for your devotion to helping people in my situation of prison and slow deterioration. Sincerely, Prisoner Texas Dept. of Criminal Justice Eastham Unit Lovelady TX 75851 ***** To Whom it May Concern, I am a lifer at Avenal State Prison. A friend came to the yard and has a copy of your yoga book. We have been going through poses for over two months now. I have noticed the remarkable changes that have helped me since starting my practice of yoga. We do it for roughly an hour a session a couple of times a week. I’m writing to see if you would be able to send me a copy of your book so I may be able to do yoga more often (in my dorm or on the yard.) Because my friend and I live in different buildings I’m not able to borrow his book or get photocopies of it. There are a few of us here in my building who would also like to practice but for the lack of more copies….I hope you’ll be able to help. Sincerely, Prisoner California Dept. of Corrections Avenal State Prison Avenal CA 93204 ***** Prison Yoga Project I’m writing with hopes of obtaining the free 100 page yoga manual. I would really like a copy so I can learn more about yoga. I hope I’m not too late. I barely came across your address and I wrote as soon as I found out. I would also like to thank you for the service your company provides to us prisoners. We benefit from books more than you can imagine, physically we are locked up but mentally we are free. Thank you and sincerely, Prisoner Texas Dept. of Criminal Justice L.V.Hightower Unit Dayton TX 77535 You may never set foot in prison but you can change a prisoner’s life. Go to prisonyoga.org/yoga-book/ to buy a book for a prisoner, send a book to a prisoner you know, or buy one for yourself.
