Letters from Prisoners. Sept. 26, 2014 Namaste, I’m an inmate currently incarcerated at Lanesboro Correctional Institution in North Carolina. For the last two months a yoga instructor has taken the time to come to the facility once a week to instruct a few of us in ashtanga yoga. After participating in the first session a fire was lit in my soul. Another inmate saw me practicing earlier today and he gave me a mailing address to send off for a copy of the Prison Yoga book that’s available. I’d be ever so grateful to receive one. Please take my request under consideration. Thank you. Prisoner Janesboro Correctional Institution Polkton NC 28135 ***** Dear People, Peace. A book, Yoga-A Path for Healing and Recovery, published by you, is in Telford Ad Seg. Due to the nature of Ad Seg-Texas, equivalent of SHU--I’d ask you all for another copy for me to study and later circulate amongst other interested prisoners “back here.” I think the pranayama alone could be of much benefit in our solitary cages. Enclosed please find (3) stamps to offset the expenses of my request at your end. At least a bit. 18 years “into forever” inside a slave labor arrangement limits my resources, right? But I realize something is better than nothing. I’ve plea bargained outta the needle, but I’ve lotsa time in a cage by myself to do positive endeavors remaining. As long as I continue breathing, actually. So I, and maybe others, will put your book to good use. Alas, I appreciate your time and energy on my behalf. Be well. Be blessed. Breathe deeply. Peace, Prisoner Texas Dept. of Criminal Justice Telford Unit New Boston TX 75570 ***** Prison Yoga Project I am requesting your 100 page yoga manual. I could put this to good use here in prison. It’s so stressful here. I would like to learn a good way to deal with prison. It is God for sure but exercise is a must. I hurt everyday by the way we must sleep and the things we do or don’t do. Thank you. Prisoner Gatesville Women’s State Prison Gatesville TX 76599 ***** Dear Prison Yoga Project, I’m currently an inmate at Monroe County Detention Center. I’ve got a few of the other girls together and we’ve been working out. I came across your book once while I was here and would like to please, please, please receive a copy of your “Yoga A Path for Healing and Recovery.” Please and thank you. We would really appreciate it. Yours truly, Prisoner Monroe CDC Key West FL 33040 ***** Greetings, My name is ____________ and I’m incarcerated at the Utah State Prison. I was recently introduced to and read “The Living Gita” by Swami Satchidananda. It has been life changing for me and has brought inner peace. I am just starting on this new spiritual path and your book “Yoga, A Path for Healing and Recovery” has been recommended to me. If possible, would you send me a copy of that book and any other enlightening literature? I’d be grateful. Prisoner Utah State Prison Draper UT 84020 ***** Friends, we urge you to find a place in your budget and your heart to send a prisoner a book tonight. We are running low and are close to reordering, your donation is a gift of life and love to a lonely prisoner in pain. Namaste Heres the link to buy a book prisonyoga.org/yoga-book/
