...Let’s move on to Turkey. This climate of “dialogue” began with negotiations between the Turkish Intelligence Agency, MIT, and the PKK leader currently imprisoned in Turkey. A year and a half passed, and the terror in the country ceased. The Southeast began rebuilding. Everything looked to be set right. But the country was divided between: 1. Those who supported the peace process and 2. Those who believed they could achieve their aim of dividing Turkey using the PKK peace process as a pretext. Anyone looking at matters objectively can see the second option is more realistic. After a number of municipalities in the Southeast of Turkey were given over to a pro-PKK party in the wake of the local elections, the elections were repeated in a number of doubtful areas. Immediately before the re-run of the election on June 1, mothers staged a sit-down protest in the largely Kurdish city of Diyarbakır. They alleged that the PKK had kidnapped their children for forced guerrilla training. Everyone blamed everyone else in Parliament, and four children returned. Had they really been kidnapped? Why were they released? These questions went unanswered. Tensions in the Southeast began rising before the repeated elections. Troops and military vehicles were attacked, the PKK staged roadblocks in certain areas: Was everything starting up again after a one-year peace process?... Aylin Kocaman Turkey and the Kurds ..
