#Lingaa Review by Common Man: Lingaa is the most awaited movie in Tamil Cinema in 2014. The one & only Superstar arrives back after 4 years. There may be fans for various actors in Tamil Cinema, but definitely their favourite actor will be fan of Superstar. He is one hero, who even common man will accept, when he does larger than life roles. He is one hero, who even general audience loves, when he speaks Punch dialogues. Movie has got released in around 3000 Screens today (Overseas – 1000+, Tamil Nadu – 500+, Andhra – 750+). Andhra Pradesh has more screens for a Tamil hero & the number of Overseas screen is twice the amount of T.N Screens, which confirms that he is the only Indian Superstar. Trailer created huge expectation for the movie, as Superstar seems to be back to his prime form yet again. Movie will definitely break all the records of South Indian Cinema, even if it is average. More than 150 Shows at Sathyam Cinemas & Mayajaal for the first day & even then, people couldn’t get tickets for the first day in Tamil Nadu. Let us see whether the movie will satisfy the Common Man in this review. Story – 75% of the story happens in the backdrop of 1940’s. Superstar, the King, decides to build Dam for a village, which suffers without water. What happens next forms the crux of the story. Superstar – He is the one Man Army for his movies for various decades. His fans fail to even notice Aishwarya Rai, when they watch their First show. His fans even watch their Thalaivar pics for hours. This movie runs for almost 3 hours and Superstar has strained a lot to entertain his fans. He has given his 100% without any doubt. Raja Lingeshwaran impresses the audience with his stylish looks & Lingaa impresses with Punch dialogues. Anushka occupies the first half & Sonakshi Sinha occupies the second half. Anushka sizzles as reporter & Sonakshi Sinha impresses as a naughty girl. Santhanam – He comes along with Lingaa in each & every scene. As usual, he impresses the audience with his one –liners in most of the scenes. But, it becomes repetitive after a period of time. Cinematographer Rathnavelu has shown great variation between 1940’s and Current Period, without using black & white for 1940’s scenes Art Director Sabu Cyril has made sure that the sets look authentic. Kudos to him for building up these kinds of sets within shorter duration. Each and every frame looks good with wonderful sets & great costumes. Music by ARR – Songs got mixed response from the audience, before the release. ‘Oh Nanba’ Song with Thalaivar’s screen presence & wonderful cheering crowd takes the song to the next level. Mona Gasolina song was the pick of the audience before the release & Superstar’s dance moments along with wonderful sets adds more value to the song. But, BGM was a disappointment. Editor Samjith Mhd – Movie runs for almost 3 hours. Most of the scenes looks too lengthy, especially Birthday scene. Though Superstar fans would love to see him for 3 hours, it would have been better, if the movie had running time of lesser than 150 minutes. Lingaa-movie-stills4 Director K.S. Ravikumar has to be hugely appreciated for taking such a mammoth movie within 6 months. He knows the pulse of Superstar’s fans and delivered it brilliantly with Muthu & Padayappa. But, he couldn’t deliver it this time. Story was too predictable. Hence, Screenplay moves at a slower pace. First half of the movie was quite engaging, second half was quite dragging and ends with a cinematic Climax, which was similar to ‘Aadhavan’ movie. Overall, Lingaa – Superstar carries the whole movie on his shoulders yet again, without much support from the technicians. Superstar has strained a lot, despite his health issues and has given his 100% to satisfy his fans. He dances, utter punch dialogues, rocks with Santhanam in Comedy scenes & train fight scenes has come out really well. Does Superstar fans needs anything else other than “SUPERSTAR’’ to watch this movie multiple times? Rating of this movie by Common Man – Majority of Tamil Nadu People are Super Star fans, isn’t it? Rating of this movie for Super Star fans – Are you Kidding? Do Superstar fans bothers about reviews & ratings for his movie
