Well converted penalties from Michael Sserumaga and Farouq Miya on top of a late Robert Ssentongo strike handed the Cranes a cutting edge in a trial match. The match was a build up to Sunday’s International friendly game against Ethiopia at Namboole Stadium and was watched by the FUFA President Eng. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) on Thursday in Cairo released the list of nominees for the 2014 African Player of the Year and the 2014 African Player of the Year (Based in Africa). Twenty-five players were nominated for the Prestigious African Player of the Year, while 20 players made the list for the Player of the Year (Based in Africa) category. The winners of these awards will be decided by votes from the head coaches and technical directors of the National Associations affiliated to CAF. The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) president, Walter Nyamilandu, has confirmed the Flames will honour the final Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers despite financial problems. Malawis last two 2015 qualifiers are at home to Mali on 15 November before travelling to Ethiopia four days later. FAM had said last week that it might be forced to withdraw from the qualifiers due to a lack of funds. Nyamlindu also announced a revised budget of US$100,000 for the games. Originally FAM had budgeted US$155,000 with the government had said they were not in a position to provide any funding for the ties. ……….
