***MAJOR ANNOUNCENT*** WORLD RATING ON THE LINE IF BRAYD SMITH CAN WALK THROUGH AN EGYPTIAN The Great White to take on Mohammed Metualy on March 14 for the WBA Featherweight Oceania title. When Brayd Smith (12W 10KO 0L) steps into the ring on March 14 he will carry the WBC Youth Silver Championship belt into the ring as champion for the last time. Come April he will be ineligible for the belt (you need to be 23 years and 11 months of age or younger to qualify for the youth divison) but if all goes to plan he’ll walk out of the ring with another belt around his waist – the WBA Oceania Featherweight title. Smith will meet Egypt’s Mohammed Metualy over 10 rounds as part of the Smithy Brings the Big fight’s 9 card at Rumours International. Not only is the WBA Oceania title on the line but also the victor is likely to enter the WBA top 15 World rankings. “It’s a very exciting for me, but also my most dangerous fight to date,” Brayd Smith said. I can’t thank Derek Milham and the WBA for this opportunity, a victory and I can enter the WBA World rankings and it’ll be a proud moment if I get that belt at the end of the fight. “It’s a great fight, it’s a step up for me and I’m looking forward to it. Metualy (18W-8KO-3L) is the current UBO African title holder and the Egyptian National Champion. His only loss in his last ten contests was two fights ago in a bout for the IBF International title against Gotlieb Ndokosho in Namibia. Six of his last nine wins have come by knock out, three in the first round. Metualy has previously been World rated, hitting the top 20 of the WBC in 2012. In his twenty one fight career he’s also collected the African Boxing Union belt and has had two other stints as the Egyptian Champion. He also had an extensive amateur career with over three hundred bouts before turning pro.. Brayd Smith’s trainer/manager Brendon Smith expects the Egyptian to try and turn the bout into a rough and tumble affair. “We need to expect anything and everything,” Brendon Smith said. “Metualy has a lot of experience and a lot of maturity, he’s fought many title fights and many ten rounders. “He’s just come off a twelve round title fight victory so he will arrive in Toowoomba fit hard and ready. “However we’ve been building towards this for a long time. “All of Brayd’s fights last year, the trip away to Thailand – they were all preparation for night’s like March 14. “We’ve got a man coming here fighting for his country and also for a top fifteen World rating, however it’s a fight I’m confident Brayd can win. “But we’ve got to go out there do the work and win the fight. “If Brayd performs at his best the result will take care of itself.” If Smith is successful he’ll become the fourth Smithy’s Gym boxer to earn a WBA Regional title. In October last year Kris George won the WBA Oceania Junior welterweight belt and Jack Asis picked up the Oceania super feather weight crown. While Les Sherrington was crowed the WBA Oceania middle weight champ at Homehill in December. “The WBA Oceania region is very proud to welcome the undefeated Brayd Smith to the WBA Family,” WBA Oceania General Secretary Derek Milham said. “He makes a well timed entrance to the WBA fold and we feel there is exciting times ahead for the Smithy’s Gym team and Australian boxing. “Metualy vs Smith is a very worthy bout for the WBA Oceania title.” The Smith Metualy fight is the third title bout scheduled for the March 14 show Smithy Brings the big fights 9 I cant wait to fight in front of Toowoomba again, Braydon Smith said. My last bout was in front of 300,000 people in Bangkok on the Kings Cup card - and it was an amazing experience - but nothing beats fighting at home. Ill prepare for this bout like I have, every other bout - like its a world title. Im so hungry for this one. Ive made no secret I want to be a world champion and I see this fight as a significant step towards that dream. I win this fight, I enter the World ratings and from there you never know - you can get a shot at the World champion. I respect Mohammed Metualy but hes standing between myself and my dream so I need to go through him first. Ill give it my all and hopefully Im rewarded when the winners name is announced in the ring on March 14,Smith said.
