"MAMNOON HUSSAIN HAS BEEN APPOINTED AS NEW PRESIDENT OF PAKISTAN" Agra-born Mamnoon Hussain was sworn in as Pakistan’s new president on Monday at a ceremony marking the country’s first democratic transition of power from one elected president to another. The oath of office was administered by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry at the function attended by PM Nawaz Sharif and former president Asif Ali Zardari. Zardaris presidential term had ended on Sunday making him the first elected president in Pakistan’s history to complete a five year term.The widower of former PM Benazir Bhutto, Zardari had succeeded ex military ruler Pervez Musharraf. In 2010 he agreed to constitutional amendments transferring many of the presidents powers to the prime minister.
