#MJFans #MJFam #MJDevotees From the linked article: A week ago today marked the fifth anniversary of the legendary King of Pop’s passing... When he died, the media blew up, as they always did when Jackson did anything. Radio stations played “Man in the Mirror” on repeat for the rest of the summer. His three children cried. Around the world, millions and millions of fans cried too. The world mourned similarly when Elvis died of an overdose. When people think of Elvis they remember him in his greased-back hair and tightly clad hip-gyrating days, not the sad, drug-ridden last years of his life. So why can’t we do the same for Jackson? Why are media tributes still punctuated with asterisks, saying “yes, Jackson was a genius” but also mentioning the trials (of which he was acquitted), the tabloid drama, most of which was faked? Because Michael Jackson was an Afro-American Genius so beyond any other white legend USA ever had. They know it and they cant take it. Michaels great-great-grandfather was a cotton plantation slave in Alabama. He was born Prince Screws in 1828. Michael wanted to name his sons Prince. From slavery to the biggest talent, creativity, success, fame, awards weve ever seen and will ever see in one person. A Black person. Michael Jackson - Jet magazine, 1979: The people told us Just deal with it (racism), because that’s how the South is. That’s ignorance and it’s taught, because it’s not genetic at all. Ebony magazine, 1984; The main thing that I hate most is ignorance, like the prejudice problems of America. I know it is worse in some other countries. But I wish I could borrow, like from Venezuela or Trinidad, the real love of color-blind people and bring it to America.I’m prejudiced against ignorance. That’s what I’m mainly prejudiced against. Steve Harvey radio interview, 2002: I´m proud of my heritage. I´m proud of it. I´m proud to be black. I´m honored to be black, and I just hope one day they will be fair in portraying me the way I really, really am….just a loving, peaceful guy wanting to make wonderful, unprecedented entertainment and songs and music and film for the world. That´s all I want to do. I´m no threat. I just want to do that. That´s what I want to do. To bring joy to the world.” via Laura Messina of TRUTH 4 MJ
