~ MORNING PRAYER • Opening Sentence Nations shall come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your rising. Isaiah 60:3 • Collect of the Day ~ First Sunday After the Epiphany Father in heaven, who at the baptism of Jesus in the River Jordan proclaimed him your beloved Son and anointed him with the Holy Spirit: Grant that all who are baptized into his Name may keep the covenant they have made, and boldly confess him as Lord and Savior; who with you and the Holy Spirit lives and reign • A Collect for the Renewal of Life O God, the King eternal, whose light divides the day from the night and turns the shadow of death into the morning: Drive far from us all wrong desires, incline our hearts to keep your law, and guide our feet into the way of peace; that, having done your will with cheerfulness during the day, we may, when night comes, rejoice to give you thanks; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. • For Mission O God, you have made of one blood all the peoples of the earth, and sent your blessed Son to preach peace to those who are far off and to those who are near: Grant that people everywhere may seek after you and find you; bring the nations into your fold; pour out your Spirit upon all flesh; and hasten the coming of your kingdom; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. • For All Sorts and Conditions God, the creator and preserver of all, we humbly beseech you for all sorts and conditions of people; that you would be pleased to make your ways known unto them, your saving health unto all nations. More especially we pray for your holy Church universal; that it may be so guided and governed by your good Spirit, that all who profess and call themselves Christians may be led into the way of truth, and hold the faith in unity of spirit, in the bond of peace, and in righteousness of life. Finally, we commend to your fatherly goodness all those who are in any ways afflicted or distressed, in mind, body, or estate; that it may please you to comfort and relieve them according to their several necessities, giving them patience under their sufferings, and a happy issue out of all their afflictions. And this we beg for Jesus Christs sake. Amen. • Hymn The Scottish Festival Singers - “Thou Whose Almighty Word” Thou, whose almighty word chaos and darkness heard, and took their flight; hear us, we humbly pray, and, where the Gospel day sheds not its glorious ray, let there be light! Thou who didst come to bring on thy redeeming wing healing and sight, heal to the sick in mind, sight to the in-ly blind, now to all humankind, let there be light! Spirit of truth and love, life-giving holy Dove, speed forth thy flight! Move on the waters face bearing the gifts of grace, and, in earths darkest place, let there be light! Holy and blessèd Three, glorious Trinity, Wisdom, Love, Might; boundless as oceans tide, rolling in fullest pride, through the world far and wide, let there be light!
