* * * * MUSICAL INSIGHT - SOMETHING DIFFERENT * * * * I always try to keep up to date with new sounds and genres and I encourage my admins to do the same. This means that I try to force a lot of them to listen to Hard Style a bit too much. But, a relatively new sound, called Subground, has grown on me. Maybe not as quick as Hard Style, but just as much. Its a gritty, normal paced, deep sounding and atmospheric type of hard EDM that is home to DJs such as Geck-O, Alex Kidd and A*S*Y*S. It provides the power of Hard Style but at a much more ease-you-in flow. So to say; Hard Style basically announces that it has power and pretty much throws it at you, whereas Subground lets you settle in. Then allows you to express your enjoyment at your own leisure. For me, my favourite artist has to be Geck-o. Ask Yourself is a song that I would have on replay constantly and his anthem; Fuel For The Night; for QULT at Q-Dances Q-Base festival is something I never expected. Because it was different. As an anthem it has no dragged out epic build up to a climax. The entire track is just one gradual climax itself. It just hits you with energy and knocks your socks off with outstanding difference to what standard and hard EDM sounds like. The climax happens very early on in the track compared to some Hard Style anthems. It takes 57 seconds to hear the tracks climax. If you can even call it so. D-Block & S-Te-Fan made the Qlimax anthem for 2009 called Nature of our mind. This track is a whopping 8 minutes 36 seconds long in full. It takes 5 minutes 26 seconds to hear the tracks climax and it lasts for 2 whole minutes WITH a second climax included at the 7 minute mark. Just to put it into perspective. I want to try ease some of you guys into Subground music. It is getting really popular in the EDM scene and I think we can help it along. So here is one of Geck-Os recent tracks called Craving. This is more euphoric and a treat on the ear to listen to. Also, you can feel its atmosphere and it kinda feels; slow-chill end of event music. You know the kinda music at the end of the night to make your memories have some musical emotion. I hope I have brought some of you peeps over to the dark-side of EDM. Welcome and enjoy! -Stephen
