*Macon County Weather Briefing for Thursday, January 22, 2015* Dry high pressure will continue to dominate the weather pattern in Macon County through late tonight. A low pressure system from the Gulf of Mexico will increase chances of precipitation early Friday through Friday night. High pressure will return for the weekend and another chance of rain/snow will approach the area on late Sunday with rain chances elevated through Tuesday. *TODAY* Mostly cloudy with highs in the upper 40s and winds out of the northwest 5 to 10 mph. *HAZARDS* None expected today. Friday and Saturday are a different matter. *FRIDAY HAZARDS* A wintry mix of rain/sleet/snow is expected. Snow will fall before daybreak, turning to sleet and freezing rain as temperatures warm, eventually turning to all rain in the mid morning hours. Some locations may become quite hazardous to travel, so practice extra caution when hitting the roads for school or work on Friday morning. If you can avoid going out until the afternoon, do so. *SATURDAY HAZARDS* If the low pressure system is slow in exiting the area, we could see a last blast of wintry precipitation that may make the roads a little hazardous in the morning hours. Be careful if you have to hazard the roads. *TONIGHT* Cloudy with lows in the lower 30s and winds from the northeast before midnight and from the southeast after midnight. 50% chance of snow, mainly after midnight. Little or no accumulation expected. *FRIDAY* Rain/Snow/Sleet with highs in the upper 30s and lower 40s and winds 5 to 10 mph from the east before noon and from 15 to 20 the southeast in the afternoon, gusting to 35 mph. 100% chance of precipitation. It will snow in the early morning hours, then turn to sleet and freezing rain as the temperatures warm, then to all rain by mid morning. Little or no snow/sleet accumulation expected. *FRIDAY NIGHT* Cloudy with lows in the lower 30s and winds 5 to 10 mph from the southeast before midnight and 10 to 15 mph from the northwest after midnight, gusting to 30 mph. 70% chance of precipitation, mainly rain before midnight and tapering off to snow after midnight.
