#MamaNamibia “I’ve lost my family and my ancestors. I don’t want to lose who I am.” – Jahohora, in Mama Namibia After the slaughter, after the mass graves have been dug or the bodies tossed into the ocean, the final cost of a genocide is what it does to the survivors for generations to come. How can they live knowing that the world didn’t care if they died? How do they put their lives back together when all that they’ve known has been destroyed? How do they move forward when there is no past, no tradition, to direct their steps? In short, how do they keep from losing who they are? PHOTO: Some of the younger victims of the 1904 genocide. If they survived, they would have had the difficult task of living in a world of strangers with no ancestors to guide them.
