‘Manchester Poppy Day On 6 Nov 14 20 soldiers and 7 wives from the 2nd Bn deployed to Manchester to support the Royal British Legion (RBL) in their efforts to raise money in aid of the Poppy Appeal 2014. The wives team were based in the Trafford Centre throughout and were determined and forthright in their approach ensuring they extracted donations from anyone who ventured close to their stand! The soldiers team was led by 2Lt Webb and supported by Sgt Collins and Sgt Taylor. The team split into two groups – one deployed around Manchester on an old-fashioned red bus and the other deployed to the Trafford Centre to conduct a static collection stand. The bus moved through the centre of Manchester visiting the Co-operative offices, Media City, WYG offices and the Trafford Shopping Centre. These collections were supported by live music, celebrity appearances and support from Reservists and retired servicemen alike, all in order to raise the profile of the Poppy Appeal. The joint wives and soldiers endeavours paid dividends. The days total came to a staggering £28,057.56 – a fantastic effort!’
