“Manchester United have just made a 30 million euros offer for Cesc Fabregas,” according to Spanish football correspondent, Guillem Balague. Balague tweeted the bombshell on Monday afternoon, and reports have subsequently emerged that United are now waiting for a response from the Spanish champions. The Red Devils had hoped to sign Thiago Alcantara, and were miffed when he opted to join Pep Guardiola’s revolution at Bayern Munich instead, and now it seems they have turned their attention to former Arsenal skipper Cesc. At the end of last season it was Fabregas who was initially linked to a move to United by the rumour mill. Like Thiago, Fabregas is also on record as saying he wants more game time at Barca, after his emotional return there from the Gunners. But unlike his young former club-mate, Cesc is also on record as saying he is determined to stay and fight for his place in Barca’s starting line-up. That was before the competition for game time at the Camp Nou increased substantially with the signing of Brazil sensation Neymar. And so it could be that Fabregas decides he too needs to seek his football fortune away from the club where he grew up. Interestingly, the transfer deal Arsenal made with Barca when flogging Fabregas to them in the first place means that the Gunners have first refusal on their 26-year-old ex-captain. Arsene Wenger already regrets allowing one Gunners skipper to join the club’s Premier League rivals United to devastating effect, and the Emirates faithful would surely be devastated themselves if the mercurial midfielder is the next North London icon to call the Theatre of Dreams home
