-March 2, 1942.... Approximately 5,000 prisoners from the Minsk Ghetto were murdered in a ravine near the the ghetto. Most were shot, some were buried alive. By August, 1942, fewer than 9,000 of the approximate 80,000 Jews were left in the Minsk ghetto according to Nazi documents. The ghetto was liquidated on October 21,1943, with many Minsk Jews perishing in the Sobibor and Maly Trostenets extermination camps. A second ghetto was established in Minsk and referred to as ‘Hamburg” and contained Jews deported from the west.
