*****Media Release***** Kanawha County Emergency Officials are preparing for potential severe weather over the next few days and are asking the public to prepare as well. Now is a good time for everyone to review your personal emergency preparedness plan. Visit kanawha.us/oem for links to “Citizens Preparedness” and “Are you Ready?” FEMA Guides to prepare for severe weather. During impending weather events, you should monitor weather reports via your television, radio or Internet. Remember to charge all cell phones in order to have a full battery in a case a power outage would occur. Locate your emergency kit and flashlights. Have food, supplies and medications ready for power outages. If a severe storm should transpire, seek shelter and stay out of the storm. If there is floodwater across a roadway do not travel through it. Turn around, don’t drown. During an emergency event, the emergency sirens may be sounded. Should you hear an emergency siren during severe weather, go indoors and turn on the radio or television for further information. A siren tone is initiated before and after the prerecorded or live message. Emergency Officials will continue to monitor the weather conditions and advise the public via twitter, the Kanawha County Facebook Page and media releases. To find us on twitter go to @kccdhsem.
