Michele, I know you care about restoring the Gulf of Mexico as much as I do. I grew up in Alabama, on the shores of the Gulf and am sickened by the decades of environmental degradation I’ve witnessed and the devastating effects the BP Deepwater Horizon oil disaster has caused in our backyards. But, we have an opportunity to speak up for the future of the Gulf! Right now, the Gulf Council is considering how best to spend RESTORE Act funds. Will you help take action today? In order to recover from the BP oil disaster, as well as from decades of degradation, it is crucial that we restore the whole Gulf, including that which we cannot see from the shoreline. We need to encourage the Gulf Council to prioritize funding for marine restoration projects. This truly is the best way to achieve a comprehensive approach to restoring the Gulf. The Gulf is an interconnected ecosystem—shrimp, fish, dolphins and birds need a healthy place to live, eat and raise their young. We need to urge the Council to prioritize marine restoration so the projects chosen will mean better habitats for fish, healthier wildlife, cleaner beaches and cleaner water.
