(Mike) A traffic nightmare in Toronto, Canada as one of the regions busiest highways is shut down. A dump truck with its box up collided with the Burlington Skyway bridge just at the start of the rush hour. The bridge has now been structurally compromised. We spoke to David Philp, a retired civil engineer who specializes in bridges. He says its the bracing strut that has been damaged. The two arches carry most of the weight. The struts are used for stability. While the bridge should not be at any risk of collapse, it will have to be repaired before it can handle traffic again. Crews may be able to patch the damaged strut but the bridge will most likely need to be closed for several days. Coming up to a long weekend in Canada, a lot of drivers certainly wont be happy.
