#MilitaryShopAus Emotional Gift for Naval Heritage Centre: The Naval Heritage Centre at Garden Island has received a deeply emotional and historic gift. November 28 represented another proud day in Navy’s long history of service. The Chief of Navy signed and donated a copy of “Celebrating 100 Years of Pride in the Fleet” to the Naval Heritage Centre. Former and visiting Navy personnel have been invited to sign their names in the centre’s copy to be preserved through the ages amongst a wonderful collection of Navy artefacts and stories. The Vice Chief of the Defence Force, Vice Admiral Ray Griggs was the first to sign the Naval Heritage Centres copy, followed by Chief of Navy, Vice Admiral Tim Barrett. The launch and signing of this spectacular book preceded the commissioning of the Royal Australian Navys biggest and newest warship, HMAS Canberra. It is only fitting that “Celebrating 100 Years of Pride in the Fleet” was launched on the historic occasion of the commissioning of Navy’s largest ever ship. This spectacular book focuses on the proud history of the Australian fleet. It was initially inspired by the images captured by Navy Photographers covering the International Fleet Review in Sydney last year, and the IFR is a key focus of the publication. However, the book has grown to include a rare and substantial offering of spectacular photographs and articles that tell the broader story of Navy, its establishments and the fleet.
