[Millies newest letter to her Mama, written whilst staying in the hotel during the first half of their honeymoon, in the French Riviera] December 27th, 1924 Dearest Mama, I wanted to write a rather quick letter to you, just to catch you up on what Harold and I have been doing here whilst honeymooning and staying at our rather luxurious hotel here in the French Riviera. Mother, you wont believe it, but Harold and I have actually extended our stay here from just two days to a little bit over a week! We arrived here on the twenty-second, so we have indeed stayed longer than planned--and we have had a terrible lot of fun every minute, too! We have dined on sumptuous meals in the hotels main restaurant, danced to records, walked along the beach, ordered up food to our hotel room, seen many of the historic sites--oh, just everything, Mother! Its all been so wonderful, and weve only been married since December fourteenth! Just two weeks, Mama--two of the best weeks that I have indeed ever had! Oh, Mother--on so many points you were indeed so very, very right! If I just speak up and discuss what I want and need--he gives it to me without a second thought! Along the lines of what we were last corresponding about, Mother, I had better fill you in on the latest news and its this--Harold has decided, in his own words, to cease and desist and wait until I am rather less sore from--well, you know, Mother! However, he says that there are--well, there are other ways to love your spouse even if one isnt fully doing--well, doing things, you know, and oh, Mama--my husband garnered more knowledge, apparently, and all from--and well, I do think that he learned it from that book that you gave to me! I fear I am beet red as I pen this, but I did want to let you know, Mama, so that you werent so very concerned since our last letter discussions--and anyhow, Mother, it is much easier to write to you of this and it is much cheaper, too, than ringing up Doctor Clarkson, as well. Besides, I dont want the Operator--or anyone else!--listening in for that matter! Yes--this is the best way, indeed! Aside from all of that, I should like to include some photographs that Harold took of me whilst we were on one of our beach excursions a day or so back--what fun that was! I stood on the pier and we looked out towards the ocean at all of the waves rising up and then falling back down and then we bought an ice cream from one of the ice cream vendors at the beach. It cost more than one would expect, of course, but Harold is always quick to say that it doesnt matter a whit to him what we do or how much we pay--or anything at all, really! He is so carefree now, Mama, that its like he is a different man, really! He is so relaxed and happy--and so am I, Mama! So am I! The first picture of me that you shall see, Mother, is of me--but when I wore one of Harolds shirts over my bathing gear! I am laughing now as I write this, for it was so cold out that day, but I did so want to be out along the ocean so much, too, that my sweet husband promptly handed me one of his overshirts and then insisted that I wear it instead of him! Hes so very sweet like that you know, Mama. Also, I was wearing something that is very much like a mans trousers, but it isnt! Its something that goes over my bathing gear--and its really rather more modern that I am used to, Mama, but wear it I did--and it kept me warm, too! Oh, Mother, I must close now, for Harold and I are going to order in an early room service dinner and then listen to some records, but I am so very glad to have had the chance to write to you tonight, too! Please do give my best to Papa and the others--including the entire household staff too, of course!--and tell them all that I bid each and every one of them well! I love you dearly, Mama, and I wish you only the best! I remain, ever yours, Your devoted eldest daughter, --Millie XOXO
