#Mississauga gymnast Anthony Tawfik won a silver medal at the national championships, held May 21-25 at Carleton University in Ottawa. Tawfik, who trains out of Futures Gymnastics, finished second overall in his first year in the tyro high-performance division. He had an overall score of 160.650, only 0.600 points behind gold medalist Samuel Zakutney, of Ottawa. Tawfik left nationals with five medals: gold in the floor exercise, silver in the overall competition, pommel horse and parallel bars, and bronze on the high bar. Futures teammate Justin Karstadt earned the overall silver medal in the high-performance junior competition. He finished with an overall score of 151.850 while picking up a gold medal on the vault and pommel horse and a silver on the rings. Parker Ramsay and Keannu Nunes, also from Futures, finished ninth and 10th overall, respectively, in the same division. Ramsay won bronze medals on the high bar and rings while Nunes collected a silver on the pommel horse.
