#MuaVoyage A Little something to share with you all…. The MissTez - Makeup Team were so privileged to be able to take a close look at the Fijian Waka - Uto Ni Yalo during our travels to Suva - Warmly welcomed on by the Crew we shot this during the process! The Waka has now reached Sydney with 3 other ancient vessels from the South Pacific and NZ for the MUA Voyage. The Mua: Guided by Nature voyage is a partnership between the IUCN Oceania Regional Office and the voyaging societies of five Pacific Island countries: Gaualofa (Samoa) – and on board they have the Tongan Voyagers Haunui (New Zealand). Marumaru Atua (Cook Islands). Uto ni Yalo (Fiji). The need for global action on oceans and climate change has brought our organisations together on the Mua voyage – in recognition that these are issues that affect all Pacific Islanders. The Mua voyage will bring this important message to the world when it sails into Sydney Harbour for the opening day of the IUCN World Parks Congress 2014. As an oceanic people, we Pacific Islanders have a history of navigating without instruments across vast distances to discover far-flung islands. Our ancestors sailed by acute observation, educated intuition and intricate observation of the stars, sun, moon, wildlife and ocean swells. They were attuned to the world around, constantly noticing the shape of the sea and the character of light through the clouds. This art of celestial navigation requires us to listen to nature as our guide and contains powerful lessons for the present and future. Mua simultaneously means the bow of a canoe, and to journey or travel in a certain direction. We are journeying on behalf of all the people of the Pacific Islands.
