"My Sports point of View” Stanley Hermanus mysportspointofview mysportspointofview.wordpress/ fun, witty, informative and good reading ........ Man City 4 – 1 Man United Crisis at Chelsea? London clubs rule the BPL log! Well done Buccaneers with qualification into CAF Championships SF! Soccer For all of those who want to crucify David Moyes: remember that United lost 6-1 against Man City after more then two decades at the helm. Perhaps we are just witnessing the decline of Manchester United. Just remember the once might Aussie cricket (and rugby) team of not too long ago. All good things come to an end ….. Ajax, Ajax, Ai-jax! When will the beloved Cape Town team be getting their first win? Chiefs managed to get back on the winning path, but they wasted a lot of opportunities in front of goal. Pirates were as wasteful against the African champions, but managed to get the draw after dominating possession and chances throughout the game. Well done Pirates with your progress thus far into the competition – you have made the whole of South Africa proud. Keep it up! Sundowns managed to shoot to the top of the log (second on goal-difference) with their impressive win against Gavin Hunt’s men. The moves of Hunt and Johnson have made the league stronger as all of a sudden Wits are seen as serious title contenders as well. Let’s just hope Johnson’s old club (Platinum Stars) will build on to what he started last season. Tuks are one of those teams who push on from where they have left off last season and show that a big heart (and desire) is as good as a big purse. Arsenal kept on from where they have taken off since their season opening loss. Three goals, three assists by that man (Ozil!). Arsene have finally splashed out on a good quality proven talent and all of a sudden they are seen as serious title contenders. Only one signing. Make a bit of a mockery of Arsene’ s insistence to stick with his ‘home grown’ talent. Little bit of trivia – of all 20 teams in the EPL only 3 qualifies to play for England. So much for development hey…. City was too fast and too talented for United on the day. From a team in crisis to a team in the top four after only a single round. I have to agree that it wasn’t Chelsea at their best (yet), which should actually bode well for Chelsea supporters going forward. Townsend and his team of presenters were the biggest hypocrites this weekend. They criticized Mourinhou for expecting Mata to do some defensive duties, but yet faulted Fillaine, Valencia etc. who make up part of United attacking force because they didn’t work hard enough on defence. Liverpool is back where they belong and the position they have become so accustomed to. Top 6 behind Everton. Martinez is doing a good job with Everton and seems that he will maintain the good work that Moyes have been doing over the years. Barcelona demolished their opponents once again and managed to keep a clean sheet on top of that. Real Madrid with all their attacking flair will once again be running for second spot. All of the best to all the winning teams! Rugby Province, ‘die Currie cup kom weer!’ Lack of bonus point for tries scored have pushed WP into second place and in some danger of losing out on a possible home final. But nothing is a given yet and the Sharks might still drop some points and allow for some other team to shoot up into the top 2. WP really looks the part and I will be surprised if they don’t qualify for a home semi-final. Perhaps Coetzee will finally land us a Super rugby title in 2014? Bjorn Basson has showed that he is pure class and only needs to be backed in the Bok setup. He deserves the same support as his lighter skinned brothers. He made the team on his attacking abilities so the team should play around his strengths and he will bring more points than what he might possibly concede through his perceived lack on defence. Johan and his team are coming along in heaps and bounce and are lucky that they’re still in the running with their up and down performances so far. Griquas need a healthy financial injection so that they can retain (and strengthen) their talent base and build consistency with the same resources for a few seasons. Lack of discipline is the last thing that the young Bulls team need right now. Their captain strongly believes that they can still make the play-offs, but I seriously have my doubts now irrespective of the hiding that the Cheetahs received at the hands of the Sharks the past weekend. Well done to all the winning teams! Motor sport Well done Vettel on your GP victory!
