"My wife and I live near Mission, but like others have also - TopicsExpress

"My wife and I live near Mission, but like others have also avoided doing business there because we feel uncomfortable. We are law-abiding people and completely support the police protecting us, but in Mission we feel like small fish being circle by sharks. Consequently, we are more likely to shop in western Shawnee or in Overland Park and avoid Mission altogether. This "speed-trap" model is such a short-sighted strategy for the City of Mission because it is definitely hurting the business owners who have made a large investment in that city and consequently provide necessary tax revenue. The retail area along Johnson Drive is unique in that it is made up of many small retail operators who could use support from the city. It is obvious from this article and other comments that a lot of people feel like us, and these small businesses are being negatively impacted by the black and white SUVs which seemingly lurk everywhere. If this quaint shopping area is seriously damaged, any real draw Mission has for shoppers from other areas will be gone, as most other cities have a Target, Walmart, Panera, etc. At that point, why shop in Mission at all?"
