‘NARROWING THE GAP ’ NOVEMBER 18TH 5.30 – 8.00PM, TOWN HALL, READING I would like to invite you to join us at Reading Borough Council’s Annual Community Event in the Town Hall on Tuesday 18th November 2014 from 5.30pm to 8pm. Building on last year’s Tackling Poverty in Reading event, this year’s event will address the challenge of ‘narrowing the gap’ in the outcomes relating to neighbourhoods and housing, health, education, and care. Despite the high levels of employment, prosperity, educational attainment, and good health enjoyed by many people within Reading there are gaps where some residents are left behind and find it difficult to find work that pays enough to cover day-to-days essentials, that are able to maintain good health or through no fault of their own face difficulties in leading an independent life that the majority of residents enjoy. The Council’s priority for 2015 - 2018 is to narrow the gaps within Reading and to continue to focus our spending plans to ensure that no one is left behind. The event will include a keynote address by Jonathan Carr-West, Chief Executive of the Local Government Information Unit. Participants will be able to interact and network through a market place of stalls and discussion groups on health, education, employment and skills, care, neighbourhoods and housing, identifying further opportunities for us all to work together to ensure that we can help people earlier so they can seize the opportunities on offer within Reading. Please let us know by Friday 7th November 2014 if you would like to attend. To secure your place, please book online at https://narrowthegap.eventbrite.co.uk This is an open event. We warmly welcome anyone who hasn’t been to one of our annual events before so I would ask you to please pass this invitation on to others and bring someone new with you.
