[NEWS] ‘The Face Reader’ continues to top local box office with over 700,000 admissions South Korean movie ‘The Face Reader’ which is led by Song Kang Ho, Lee Jung Jae, Kim Hye Soo, and Lee Jong Suk, continued to fare impressively at the local box office, as it was revealed today to have collected more than 700,000 admissions in total after just two days of airing. According to statistics released by the Korean Film Council (KOFIC) today, ‘The Face Reader’ had 323,187 admissions for September 12th. Adding to the 380,000 admissions it had for its opening day, ‘The Face Reader’ has now amassed 707,438 admissions after just 2 days of airing. ‘The Face Reader’ is set in the time when Sejo of Joseon seizes the throne in a coup, and follows the life of a talented face reader who can see one’s future by just reading faces, but soon sees himself being forced into the biggest power struggle in the history of the Joseon dynasty. The movie had already drawn much interest prior to airing, due to its star-studded cast of Song Kang Ho, Kim Hye Soo, Lee Jong Suk, Lee Jung Jae, Cho Jung Seok, and Baek Yoon Shik. Following closely behind was ‘The Spy: Undercover Operation’ which attracted 45,528 admissions on the same day to place second, and brought its accumulated admissions to 1,277,581. The comedy action movie talks of a secret agent named Chul Soo (Sol Kyung Gu) who is working on a case in Bangkok, Thailand that affects the entire country of South Korea. But his plans goes awry after he spots his flight attendant wife (Moon So Ri) who is supposed to be in South Korea, to be in Bangkok with a good looking man named Ryan (Daniel Henney). The chemistry between Moon So Ri and Sol Kyung Gu has been highly lauded by audiences, and the movie could well be the sleeper hit this fall in South Korea. How will the battle between ‘The Face Reader’ and ‘The Spy: Undercover Operation’ develop from here on this fall? That is a question that many in the industry are keen to find out. ‘The Spy: Undercover Operation’ had topped the box office in the first week of its airing, but the entry of ‘The Face Reader’ this week has somewhat slowed its momentum. But with the lengthy Korean Thanksgiving holidays this year, there’s no clear cut winner as to who will come out on top. ‘The Moral Instruments: City of Bones’ which opened on September 12th, garnered admissions of 34,177 to place 3rd on the box office chart. ‘Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters’ was next on the chart with 12,306 admissions. ‘Monster University’ rounded up the top 5 with 8,202 admissions. via YAHOO! omg!
