:::NOOB ALERT::: Ok gang, Im getting ready to brew my first high gravity beer. I am brewing extract and I had a couple questions before we get this started and I thought I can ask the experts here. 1. First, im using a white labs strain and going to make a starter. Now I never have done this yet, im use to the smack packs but from what I have seen/read ill make a starter using some DME. Im assuming it would be ok to use some DME from the kit to make the starter since its all going right back into the same spot? 2. How big of a starter should I make for a OG of 1.076? 3. I have the standard fermentation buckets most people start with and im worried about blow off. With that said I have only used the standard airlocks to this point but I was going to use my racking/syphon tube to make a blow off out of the standard bubbler and into a gallon jug of starsan. Is that tube big enough? 4. Finally I was thinking during the secondary adding some Jack Daniels wood chips to imbue a poor mans version of barrel aged (I think this would work). Any suggestions to how much and how long to keep them in there? I have never added anything to the secondary yet. Thanks for the help guys/gals!
