#NSW #QLD #Weather #News #CTCorp Queensland and and New South Wales border hit with close to 300mm of rain in 24 hours Areas surrounding the Queensland and New South Wales border have been hit with a deluge of rain, with close to 300 millimetres falling in some areas in the past day. According to the Bureau of Meteorology (BoM), in the 24 hours to 9:00am Duranbah recorded 291mm, 278mm fell at Kingscliff and Tweed Heads saw 292mm. Heavy rainfall was also experienced on the northern side of the border - with neighbouring Coolangatta receiving 153mm in the same period. Currumbin Creek recorded 100mm and Upper Springbook had 116mm. Floodwaters have closed some roads around Tweed Heads, and several flights have been diverted from the Gold Coast Airport due to the rain. Jetstar diverted two domestic and two international flights this morning and turned another flight back to Sydney. Across the south-east, the State Emergency Service were called out to 11 properties to help cover leaky roofs. Heaviest rainfall in years in parts of the south-west Meanwhile residents across south-west Queensland have been rejoicing after some of the heaviest rainfall this year. Levels in excess of 100mm have fallen in some areas close to Charleville. Andrew Pegler said he had seen the biggest one-day fall in almost two years. One rain isnt going to bail us all out but its certainly a very, very good start, he said. Pete Sheehan, from Trinidad near Quilpie, said the rain had been varied across the region but any amount was welcome. All rains good at the start of summer mate. You can only hope for more. Senior forecaster Jonty Hall said drought-stricken regions could expect the rain to last until Monday. It will continue for another day or so we will see a temporary clearance of a lot of the cloud eastwest but still remaining unstable so showers and thunder storms redeveloping tomorrow over a similar area in the southern inland of Queensland, she said. The BoM said it was expecting showers to continue moving east over the next two days.
