* NUTRITION INFO-BITS * By: Steven Blechman and Thomas Fahey, EdD MILK PROTEINS AND EXERCISE IMPROVE BLOOD VESSEL HEALTH -- High blood pressure stiffens the arterial walls and places significant stress on the heart. Obesity contributes to increased blood vessel stiffness. Florida State University scientists found that milk protein supplements (whey and casein proteins) combined with exercise improved blood vessel health in obese women with high blood pressure. Resting blood pressure decreased by six mmHg, which is a value similar to that achieved through blood pressure medications. The study examined 33 women who consumed 30 grams of milk protein and exercised three times per week for four weeks. The combination of milk protein and aerobic exercise can reduce blood pressure and improve cardiovascular health. Source: American Journal Hypertension
